Significance
The Goddess is worshipped here as Mata Vaishno Devi, in a holy cave where she is present as three natural rock forms (pindis) representing Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati.
It is among the most visited pilgrimage sites in India, especially during Navratri, administered by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
History
A long-revered cave shrine in the Trikuta hills; in modern times the pilgrimage has been organised and its paths developed by the Shrine Board established in 1986.
How to reach
In the Trikuta hills above Katra, Jammu & Kashmir, reached by a trek of about 12 km from Katra town, which has a railway station; the nearest airport is at Jammu.
