Significance
Shiva is worshipped here as Mallikarjuna on the sacred hill of Srisailam, one of the oldest pilgrimage centres of southern India.
The site is rare in being both a Jyotirlinga (Mallikarjuna) and a Shakti Peetha (Bhramaramba Devi), so Shiva and the Goddess are revered together on the same hill.
History
Srisailam has been a centre of Shaiva worship since antiquity and is praised in classical devotional literature; the temple complex has grown through many centuries of patronage.
