Significance
Jagannath, 'Lord of the Universe', a form of Krishna, is worshipped here with Balabhadra and Subhadra. Puri is one of the four Char Dham of India.
The temple is renowned for the Rath Yatra, when the deities are drawn through Puri on massive chariots, and for its vast temple kitchen and mahaprasad.
History
The present temple at Puri dates largely to the 12th century, built under the Eastern Ganga dynasty, on a site of much older worship.
