Significance
Shiva is worshipped here as Trimbakeshwar at the foot of Brahmagiri hill, from which the sacred Godavari river rises.
The lingam is unusual in showing three faces — for Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva — and the town is a major centre for Hindu rites; the Nashik–Trimbak Kumbh Mela is held nearby.
History
An ancient and much-revered Jyotirlinga; the present black-stone temple was built in the 18th century under the Peshwa Balaji Bajirao (Nanasaheb).
