The story
Ram Navami marks the birth of Rama in Ayodhya — the seventh avatar of Vishnu and, in the Ramayana, the very embodiment of dharma: the ideal son, king, and upholder of righteousness.
It falls at the close of Chaitra Navratri, and its worship at midday recalls Rama's traditional birth hour. The day is kept with fasting, readings of the Ramayana, and devotional singing.
