Hindu festival
Akshaya Tritiya
Also known as Akha Teej, Akti.
In short
Akshaya Tritiya, 'the imperishable third', is one of the most auspicious days of the Hindu year, on the third tithi of the waxing moon in Vaishakha. Whatever is begun or given on it is believed to grow and never diminish, so many start ventures, give in charity, and buy gold.

'Akshaya' means imperishable: the day is held to be wholly auspicious (an abujha muhurat) and needs no further electional timing. Tradition also marks it as the birth of Parashurama and the start of the Treta Yuga.
The story of Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya means that which never decays. On this day the merit of every good act — charity, worship, a new beginning — is believed to endure and multiply without end, which is why no separate auspicious hour need be sought for it.
Many sacred events are remembered on it: the birth of Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu; the start of the Treta Yuga; Vyasa's beginning of the Mahabharata; and the gift of the Akshaya Patra, the vessel that never ran empty. Together they give the day its promise of inexhaustible blessing.
How is Akshaya Tritiya celebrated?
Held so auspicious that no separate muhurat is needed, the day is chosen for weddings, new ventures, and buying gold or property. Devotees worship Lakshmi and Vishnu, give generously in charity, and begin what they hope will prosper without end.
A mantra to mark the day
ॐ श्रीं महालक्ष्म्यै नमः
oṃ śrīṃ mahālakṣmyai namaḥ
I bow to Mahalakshmi, giver of abundance, grace, and well-being.
