Significance & stories
Lakshmi arose from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) and chose Vishnu as her eternal consort. Wherever he takes form, she accompanies him — as Sita with Rama, as Rukmini with Krishna.
Her abundance is understood broadly: not only money, but health, harmony, beauty, and grace. Tradition holds she favours a grateful, generous, and steady heart. Friday is her day, and Diwali her great festival, when homes are lit and cleaned to welcome her.
