Vibhishana is the righteous younger brother of Ravana in the Ramayana. Unable to support his brother's refusal to return Sita, he left Lanka and joined Rama, counselling dharma over kinship. After Ravana's defeat — remembered at Dussehra — Rama crowned him king of Lanka.

Vibhishana’s story and role
As Ravana's brother, Vibhishana urged him repeatedly to return Sita and avoid ruin. When Ravana refused and insulted him, Vibhishana made the hardest choice — to leave his own family and cross over to Rama, choosing righteousness over loyalty to blood.
He served Rama faithfully, even revealing how Ravana could be defeated. After the war he was consecrated king of Lanka, and tradition counts him among the chiranjivis, the deathless ones. He is remembered as the devotee who held to dharma when it cost him everything.
