Answered from scripture
What is bhakti yoga?
In short
Bhakti yoga is the path of loving devotion to God — one of the central spiritual paths in Hinduism and the Bhagavad Gita. Rather than reaching the Divine through action or knowledge alone, the devotee reaches it through love, surrender, and remembrance. Krishna promises in verse 9.22 to personally secure and protect those who are devoted.

The verse
“ananyāś cintayanto māṁ ye janāḥ paryupāsate”
Bhagavad Gita 9.22 · Chapter 9, Raja-Vidya-Raja-Guhya YogaTo those who think of Me with undivided heart, I carry what they lack and preserve what they have.
Spoken by Krishna to the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra — the Gita sits within the Mahabharata's Bhishma Parva — as Arjuna, overcome with grief and unwilling to fight his own kin, laid down his bow before the war.
In depth
Bhakti means devotion — a relationship of love between the devotee and the Divine. The Gita holds it to be the most accessible path: open to everyone, regardless of learning or circumstance, needing only a sincere and loving heart.
Its practices are simple and tender — chanting the divine name (japa and kirtan), worship, remembrance, and offering one's actions to God. Krishna's promise in 9.22 — that he carries what the devoted lack and preserves what they have — is one of the most beloved assurances in all of scripture.
